How to calculate hours worked
Subtract the start time from the end time and then subtract unpaid breaks. Shifts that end after midnight (e.g. 10 PM to 6 AM) are handled automatically as overnight shifts.
Decimal hours
Payroll usually needs hours in decimal form: 7 hours 45 minutes = 7.75 hours. Divide the minutes by 60 to convert. Both formats are shown in the results.
Overtime
In the US, the FLSA requires 1.5× pay for non-exempt employees working over 40 hours a week. Rules differ elsewhere; adjust the threshold and multiplier to match yours.
